Wowee.

This one was something else huh. Epic to see so many punishers show up with spoons to a gun fight. On paper it was an advantageous and questionable route and me oh my did it deliver in full.

Unfortunately half of the field was immediately DQ’d after failing to drop into the queen stage “GB DH”. This left the field wide open for new comer and first time MSG patron Sam Davidson to leave his literal mark on the trail. Special mention to Micah Gordon who also had a wrestle with the same black mamba aka Alkathene pipe. MVP to both riders.

The traverse across to the bridal path saw Max Hides make an unsportsmanlike break from the group while good Samaritan Jacques Bakkenes stopped to change a stray ebike riders flat tire who, confused had mistakenly ended up participating in the prestigious event. It was later discovered Max Hides abandoned the established route as well as his dignity. DQ for Max Hides.

The slog up Bridal path was everything the riders were hoping for and more, control point B lifted spirits at the top and the push to the finish began. Some spicy bonus “single track” was unlocked as an alternative to the Rapaki tarseal and the groupetto put the hammer down to the finish.

Another outstanding performance from Melanie Blomfield who again made it to the pub in first place.
